It has been 30 years since the original Toy Story movie debuted, launching the animation giant as a leading film company and introducing audiences to iconic figures like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a brief look into the plot but leaving fans curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys

The preview reveals the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a brand new plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer doesn't touch on is why Woody is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.

Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with him. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the badge attached to her shirt.

Hopefully she is still the key figure among the group.
